Society of Critical Care Medicine Relocates Congress Meeting from New Orleans to San Francisco
Meeting to be held January 7-11, 2006

(Des Plaines, Ill., September 13, 2005) - Due to the devastating situation in New Orleans brought on by Hurricane Katrina, the Society of Critical Care Medicine has moved its 35th Critical Care Congress meeting from New Orleans to San Francisco, January 7-11, 2006.

The Society had hoped to hold Congress in New Orleans as originally planned, but due to cancellation of all conventions in New Orleans through March 31, 2006, relocating Congress was necessary. Upon weighing the options available, the Society secured the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco, California, for January 7-11, 2006. The Congress was originally scheduled for January 21-25, 2006 at the Ernest J. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

"We are pleased to have found a new home for the Society of Critical Care Medicine's 35th Critical Care Congress," said SCCM President Peter B. Angood, MD, FCCM. "San Francisco is a unique location that offers various attractions to appeal to our international participants. We are confident that the Moscone West Convention Center, its surrounding hotels and the city of San Francisco will accommodate the Society's needs and provide each attendee with an ideal learning environment."

Thanks to the Society's disaster readiness, staff was able to quickly locate new dates and a new location for the Congress. The Society anticipates that the program content will remain unchanged, as the meeting dates will follow the traditional Saturday through Wednesday pattern as in past years. The San Francisco Hilton Hotel will serve as the Society's headquarters hotel. The Society projects an attendance of approximately 5,000.

The Society's Critical Care Congress features more than 300 presentations and nearly 150 exhibitors focused on further improving ICU patient care. Program highlights include cutting-edge molecular, cellular and genome-wide advances that will contribute to the next generation of novel ICU therapeutics. Esteemed experts in critical care will discuss today's major critical care issues during various plenary sessions.

Registration is available for the Society's Critical Care Congress by calling +1 847 827-6888 or visiting www.sccm.org.
